All ASA rules as described in the rulebook apply unless specifically addressed here.
Stealing: Stealing is allowed for all bases including home. Players may leave the base to steal when the ball leaves the pitcher’s hand. Players detected leaving early will be called “out”.
Dropped 3rd Strike: Batters may advance to 1st base on a dropped 3rd strike.
Bunting: Bunting is allowed.
Players/Substitutions: Teams can play with up to 9 players on defense. All players will be included in the batting order and must play at least 2 innings in the field. Free defensive substitution of all players is allowed. A courtesy runner for the catcher is recommended when there are 2 outs. The player making the last out will be the substituted base runner.
Infield: No more than 6 players may being a play in the infield. All outfielders must be on the outfield grass when the ball is pitched.
Time Limit: Games consist of up to 7 innings. A new inning may not start after 75 minutes. An inning is started immediately after the 3rd out is registered on the home team. If the scored is tied at the end of 7 innings or at the time limit, the game is a tie. Games will end promptly at 85 minutes.
Sliding: Base runners are to avoid contact, there is no rule mandating a “must slide on a close play”. Players should be taught how to slide properly.
Hit Batters: A pitched ball that hits the batter becomes a dead ball. The batter is awarded 1st base, base runners that are forced will advance. Please note this includes balls that hit the batter on the bounce.
Play Stoppage: Play stops when the pitcher has control of the ball in the mound area, approximately a 10’ circle centered by the pitching rubber. Base runners that are not in stride toward the next base will be returned to the preceding base by the umpire.
Pitching: A pitcher may pitch unlimited innings in a game. Pitching distance will be 43’. Pitchers are to start their windup with both feet on the pitching rubber. They are not allowed to take a step back in their windup, although they may “rock” their shoulders back. Pitchers are not allowed to jump or leap forward as they deliver the ball – their back foot (rubber foot) must remain on the ground (dragged) until the ball has left their hand.
Ball: A 12” softball will be used.
Run Rule: There is a 10 run rule after 4 innings completed. If the visiting team is leading by 10 or more runs after the home team has batted in the 4th inning, the game is considered completed. If the home team is ahead by 10 or more runs after the visitor has batted in the top of the 4th inning or is ahead by 10 or more runs after batting in the 4th inning the game is considered completed.
Run Limit: There is an 8 run limit per inning at bat.
Infield Fly Rule: The infield fly rule is in effect.
Inning Switch: Coaches are encouraged to hustle players on and off the field. The umpires will be instructed to allow no more than 2 minutes between innings.
