Jobs - Ump/Concession/Grounds

Applications for Umpires, Concession Workers, and Grounds/Field Workers may be found here. While we hope to hire many workers for the season, please keep in mind that submitting an application and attending training does not guarantee a position or a minimum number of weekly hours if offered a position. The League will purchase shirts for all hired as Umpires, Concession Workers, and Grounds/Field Workers.

Anyone 15 years and younger needs a Work Permit the first season they work for SPYBAS. Once you have obtained a work permit and submitted it to SPYBAS you do not need to do this again. Work permits can be obtained from the Department of Workforce Development here. Select "recreational" as the nature of the business:

Umpiring Information

  • Please see and review the Rules under each League - they are different for EACH league
  • The League will purchase Umpire shirts for all hired as Umpires
  • There will be training sessions prior to the start of the season
  • Umpires will need to submit a new application each year (Minimum of 13 years old)
  • The ability to claim games will be available shortly after league schedules are released via the DIBS program and are updated in real time.
  • The schedule will be reviewed weekly and if any games are open, emails will be sent to the umpire group asking to fill any open games. 
  • New umpires will start slow -- Rookies & Minors assignments
  • Additional opportunities may be available to Umpire Classic Tournaments on weekends

Umpire training session will be (TBD for 2026) at the Sun Prairie Youth Baseball and Softball Complex.

Concession Information

Applications will be accepted through March 31st, 2026. More hiring may be conducted throughout the summer.

Grounds/Fields Information

  • Grounds workers will need to submit a new application each year (Minimum of 13 years old)
  • Typical duties include
    • Drag and prep fields for practices and games.
    • Mow all grass
    • Pick up garbage around complex
    • Maintain good appearance of the whole complex
    • Keep all equipment and tools in good working order
